Die Antwoord aren’t strangers to controversy or fighting with other artists.
They were even beefing with Eminem late last year, which seems a bit counterproductive, but no press is bad press, amirite?
Maybe, although the latest scandal is a little more hectic.
Australian rapper Zheani has accused Die Antwoord’s Ninja of ongoing abuse and misconduct in a diss track called ‘The Question’, reports Tone Deaf.
We’ll unpack the details in a second, First, take it away, Zheani:
The track lists a series of claims against Ninja including that he allegedly threatened her, trafficked her to South Africa to have sex with her due to her resemblance to his daughter, and shared sexually explicit images of her.
Throughout the video, alleged screenshots of private conversations and emails between Zheani and Ninja are shared dating back to 2013. It is also revealed that Die Antwoord have sent Zheani a Cease & Desist letter, threatening to sue her for defamation.
Die Antwoord’s Yolandi Visser has made two lengthy statements on Instagram titled ‘Clout Chaser’, in which she denies any truth to Zheani’s statements.
This is where it gets weird. According to a Reddit thread, the video mentions some odd esoteric stuff.
Ninja mentions the Third Eye once or twice, which is a religious concept stemming from the Indian subcontinent. I’ve yet to find evidence of the Third Eye being a Satanist concept as well.
Ninja seems to be talking about some sort of role dynamic based on personality types involving himself, Yolandi, and various other people including Zheani. He says that he is subservient to Yolandi through this dynamic.
Yolandi says this is a “typical case of clout chasing (google that sh*t)”, so I Googled that sh*t.
A clout chaser is someone who acts important when they aren’t important and hangs out with people who because of their popularity.
To date, the cease and desist letter levied against Zheani is not yet in full effect, and the video is still doing the rounds on social media and YouTube.
