If you’re in the market for a tattoo you might want to take some inspiration from Lady Gaga and Halle Berry.
Both celebs recently revealed their new tattoos (although the jury is still out as to whether Berry’s one is real), and they had something in common.
Both tattoos were of plants, and both go all the way down the spine.
Here’s The Daily Beast:
Lady Gaga celebrated Valentine’s Day by gifting herself not the cliché chocolates or jewelry, but rather an extra long tattoo of a rose. The piece traces her spine, running from the nape of her neck down to the small of her back. Gaga surrounded the art with text: “La Vie en Rose,” a nod to a pivotal scene from A Star Is Born.
Gaga shared a pic of her new tattoo on Instagram:
Gaga’s tattoo was made by LA-based Daniel Winter who’s better known as ‘Winter Stone’.
Since the Instagram post, tattoo artists have confirmed a rise in the request for spine tattoos.
Here’s Berry’s tattoo, also posted on Instagram:
Hector Daniels, a tattoo artist at NYC’s uber-trendy Bang Bang, says that he sees a “pretty consistent” demand for spine tattoos at the studio.
“I do expect more people wanting them in the coming months, for sure,” he said. “There’s no question celebrities have influence over these trends. They really sell it.”
Daniels has seen “lots of different things done down the spine”.
“It flows with the body,” Daniels said. “You always want the tattoo to look like the person was born with it, or that it grew there.”
Just a bit of advice from someone who has had their spine tattooed – if it’s your first one, maybe opt for something smaller somewhere else before taking the plunge of a full-length back tattoo.
The spine hurts like hell.
