Nope. The image above is not a Photoshopped thumbnail from a Montecasino advert.
It was taken in Johannesburg, though.
It’s a small part of a giant property and mansion in Sandhurst, currently listed on the market for R180 million – the highest price that has ever been asked for a residential property in Gauteng.
Before we take a closer look at it, let’s get to why we are here: the age-old battle between Capetonians and Joburgers about who has it better.
Nah, I’m kidding. We just want to compare what you can do with R180 million if you’re looking for property in either great city and have the cash to burn.
By “you”, I mean that one person somewhere who probably doesn’t read this site anyway.
Back to the Sandhurst mansion. According to BusinessTech, the property can accommodate 20 vehicles and is 2 200 square metres under roof.
It also has marble floors throughout, and is a monstrous shade of pink:
The mansion also has a fully-fitted cinema room with leather chairs, a bar room, a wine cellar, a “disco room”, seven bedrooms and numerous receiving rooms.
There is an elevator and rear staircase to all three floors, plus a three-bedroom staff suite as well as a borehole and water tanks, solar heating and home automation.
The mansion is located on 8,565 square metres of land and in the grounds a floodlit tennis court, two swimming pools, two gazebos, numerous fountains and a formal, elegant garden.
In other words, you can Downton Abbey it in your receiving rooms before letting loose in your disco room. Good stuff.
Just paint the thing, please. It looks like an elaborate cake.
On to Cape Town, where you can snap up this neat little property in Clifton for a staggering R172,5 million. That’s a saving of R7,5 million, which you can use to install a few more receiving rooms and disco room if you so desire.
This neat little home was designed by Stefan Antoni.
This multi-storey mansion features six bedroom suites including two luxurious master suites, a gymnasium, private cinema, full home automation, a climate control system, private lift, staff accommodation, seamless flow from living areas to outdoor entertainment and rim-flow swimming pool and multi-car garages.
It’s also in Cape Town, which means that you don’t need to install massive water features, as the city comes with an ocean and an ocean view.
In fact – take in that view.
It also isn’t pink which is a huge plus as far as I’m concerned.
Overall, both of these properties are far too decadent for my taste. I prefer the simple life.
At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
