Ever since Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper did their press tour for A Star is Born, rumours of a possible affair have circulated.
Then, in the week leading up the Oscars, Gaga called off her engagement to Christian Carino.
At the Oscars, Gaga and Cooper performed ‘Shallow’, the hit song from A Star is Born, and the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Finally, before we can move on with our lives, everyone freaked out about Cooper’s partner, Irina Shayk, unfollowing Gaga on Instagram earlier this week.
Never mind that nobody seems sure if she ever followed Gaga in the first place.
If you think that was tough to read, imagine writing it.
All of this leads us to Gaga’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, where she addressed the issue head-on. Around the three-minute mark below, Jimmy gets into it, awkwardly stumbling over his words before getting to the point.
‘Social media is the toilet of the internet’ earns Gaga my respect:
Too long, didn’t watch?
Here’s a summary of sorts via Variety:
The Oscar-winning songwriter, who brought her statue along for the interview, gave a massive eyeroll, and then went in: “First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet. And what it has done to pop culture is abysmal. And people saw love, and guess what, that’s what we wanted you to see.”
“This is a love song, ‘Shallow,’” she continued. “The movie, ‘A Star Is Born,’ is a love story…
Gaga went on to chalk her and Cooper’s apparent chemistry up to the demands of performing love songs.
“From a performance perspective, it was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time. Look, I’ve had my arms wrapped around Tony Bennett for three years touring the world. When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel.”
There you have it.
Gaga says she isn’t in love with Bradley.
Back to trawling the toilet that is social media, then.
