When Disney dropped the teaser trailer for the live-action remake of The Lion King in November, people were excited, and the trailer became Disney’s most-watched trailer in a day, with a whopping 224,6 million views in the first 24 hours alone.
Fair enough, because if you’re of a certain age, then the original probably holds a pretty special place in your heart.
As is the case with big-name movies these days, one trailer never seems to suffice, so Disney was at it again earlier this morning with the first full-length trailer.
For me, it’s basically a rejig on the footage we saw back in November, but that hasn’t dulled the enthusiasm.
Variety reports:
The new footage didn’t reveal much about the upcoming feature, although it did seem to almost mirror the original 1994 animated classic. The latest trailer began with a familiar scene set to the chant from “The Circle of Life” as the sun rises and Rafiki lifts Simba over the kingdom.
The voice cast includes James Earl Jones, returning to his original role as Mufasa from the original film, along with Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.
Off we go with the latest trailer, then:
By the way, that opening bit is “Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba / Sithi uhm ingonyama”, which translates to “Here comes a lion, Father / Oh yes, it’s a lion”.
Feel free to belt that out whenever the mood strikes, with the movie itself dropping on July 19.
