Three important things happened at the Academy Awards this year.
Queen opened the ceremony, the Oscars themselves were dished out, and Trevor Noah reminded the world of his chops as a comedian, and his heritage as a South African, when he introduced the nominee for Best Picture, Black Panther.
The guests present at the event found him pretty funny, but they had no idea just how funny he was being.
Noah pointed out that since the release of the film, people have started greeting him by saying “Wakanda Forever”. He then goes on to jokingly talk about his childhood in Wakanda.
Before we get into the really funny part with IOL, take a look at his intro:
While those at the Oscars enjoyed his humorous tale and cheered his final statement about working together, Black Twitter blew up as people got the real punchline:
Black Twitter was left in stitches by Noah’s tale because they were undoubtedly the only ones who understood the true meaning of the Xhosa phrase, which loosely translates to “White people don’t know I’m lying.”
Nicely done, Trevor. Nicely done.
