Two incidents, in Durban and Muizenberg respectively, have urged authorities to caution motorists and pedestrians against a trend of blitz attack criminal activity in South Africa.
In both incidents, the victims were attacked suddenly and in broad daylight, with both crimes captured on video.
The first, which occurred in Durban, shows a pedestrian walking up to a car and snatching the wig off of the head of a motorist.
Yes, snatching her wig from right off her head.
TimesLIVE reports that Nombeko Madiba was in her car, waiting for a traffic light to change in peak hour afternoon traffic on the M4 bridge on Tuesday, when the man struck.
“I was so shocked that I couldn’t even react,” Madiba said.
She said the 50cm long wig – which retails for about R4,000 – was a gift from her sister who works in a salon.
“I have been driving around for about two years now and this is the first time I was attacked like this. I am left with a bruise on my head and even now I am still shocked.”
Charlene Oberholzer Cross, who captured the incident on her dashcam, said that she shared the footage to “create awareness in motorists that they need to be careful when they are on the roads”.
Not even your wigs are safe, now.
The second incident, which took place on Sunrise Boulevard in Costa de Gama, Muizenberg, has been widely shared across social media and local news sites, including CapeTalk.
This one is tough to watch, with the cars zooming past the woman, clearly in distress after the attack, particularly jarring:
