The leaks have started, giving Apple enthusiasts a peek at what we can expect from the tech giant in 2019.
New designs and upgrades are expected on a number of products, including the iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro.
Here’s a hint – multiple cameras and sleeker display, which are two of the areas that some may have had gripes with in the past.
To get the lowdown on these leaks and rumours, let’s dive in with The Verge. They turned to expert analyst Ming-Chi Kuo for some insight into what’s coming.
Kuo has released a new analyst note (via 9to5Mac and MacRumors) with his predictions across Apple’s entire lineup of devices, and he’s corroborating reports that the Cupertino company will release three iPhones in 2019 as well — including one with a triple-camera system.
While Kuo predicts that the phones will have the same screen sizes and even the same notches — and that the 6.1-inch iPhone XR followup will still use a cheaper LCD, rather than OLED screen — he adds that these phones are expected to have an upgraded Face ID system, upgraded battery, a frosted glass casing (perhaps similar to the frosted back on the Pixel 3) and most intriguingly, an ultra-wideband radio for indoor navigation and bilateral wireless charging so your phone can charge other things.
So your phone becomes everything including a power bank. Nice.
Kuo also maintains that Apple is finally updating the iPod Touch and the iPad Mini, and says Apple will introduce two new full-size iPads as well — only with larger 10,2 inch instead of 9,7-inch screens, that bring them closer to the size of the iPad Pro.
Good news for those of you who, like Seth, are living the iPad life.
In a separate article by The Verge, Kuo went on to reveal the plans for the MacBook in the year to come.
Kuo says the lineup may also include a 13-inch model with support for 32GB of RAM; right now only the 15-inch MacBook Pro can be configured with that amount of memory.
…Kuo also believes that the long-awaited new Mac Pro will be coming this year with “easy to upgrade components,” though Apple itself has already said as much. More interestingly, Kuo has the first credible details of the external monitor that will mark Apple’s return to the pro display market. It’s said to be a 31.6-inch 6K display with a “Mini LED-like backlight design.” Apple discontinued its last monitor, the Thunderbolt Display, back in 2016; right now the best option for owners of more modern Macs is the Apple-sanctioned but imperfect 27-inch LG UltraFine 5K.
The release date for these products is as yet unknown, but one thing is certain – once they’re on the market, you’ll want to get down to Digicape, South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer.
They’re your one-stop-shop for everything Apple-related, including some incredible deals on Macs and iPads.
