Ride-hailing service, Taxify, are investigating a report that two women were allegedly stabbed by one of their drivers when they failed to produce fare money at the end of their trip.
The incident, which apparently took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, left both women injured. They managed to escape the cab and were treated at a nearby hospital.
Reporting here via News24:
Gareth Taylor, country manager of Taxify in South Africa, said via statement that the company was aware of media reports that there had been an incidenct near Okavango Drive in Cape Town, and that it had activated its “high priority” team to investigate.
It’s Taxify policy to immediately suspend any driver who is under police investigation and remove them completely if they’re convicted of a crime.
“Taxify will do everything possible to support any SAPS investigations into this incident, by sharing any information we possibly can that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of this atrocious incident.”
Let’s hope he’s off the streets soon.
