For much of the last week, the South African social media scene has been dominated by the testimony of Angelo Agrizzi.
He’s been laying bare exactly how Bosasa, with CEO Gavin Watson at the helm, bribed top government officials in order to secure lucrative contracts.
Agrizzi may have a personal vendetta against Watson, after a failed attempt to take over Bosasa, but South African Twitter still went after the CEO’s blood.
Just the one problem – they found the wrong Gavin Watson. The man with the handle @gavinwatson is actually a 45-year-old programmer and software developer based in the UK, and he didn’t seem to understand what was happening.
Over to News24:
On January 18, he tweeted: “So apparently someone who has the same name as me has done something bad and now I’m getting trolled! How cool is that?!
Since he became aware of the allegations against his namesake, the UK-based Watson has been creating memes with the hashtag #NotTheRealGavinWatson.
His meme game is pretty on point:
Gavin, congrats on taking all of this in your stride.
Sadly for you, Angelo Agrizzi’s testimony continues today, and you can bet that the other Gavin Watson is going to have his name dragged through the mud.
We’ll part ways with a live feed from the Zondo Commission:
If that goes down, you should find another stream here.
