England has a long history of fighting for the rights of the working class, from the Jarrow protest march in 1936, to the Poll Tax riots of 1990.
In short, you don’t want to mess with the working man when he feels he’s owed his due.
That seems to be the sentiment behind what happened in Liverpool recently. Police are seeking information after a man used a digger to destroy the reception area of a new Travelodge hotel on the day building was due to be completed, reports The Guardian.
The destruction was filmed and posted to social media. Listen closely for the angry rant in the background:
I wish he’d tell us how he really feels.
“The handover was today, everything completed, we’d put the last tile in, cleaned up and made sure everything was perfect,” said Samuel White, a ceiling fixer. “Then some idiot in a mini digger decided to drive through the middle of the building.” White said the destruction went on for “a good 20 or 30 minutes”.
Repeated claims on social media suggest that the destruction came about as a result of a wage dispute.
White added: “There were loads of workers outside all gobsmacked, jaws to the floor wondering what’s going on. The site manager was running around like a headless chicken; he wasn’t happy at all.”
I’m sure he wasn’t.
The investigation is ongoing.
