If you care, the 2017 Miss Universe and former Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, is engaged.
If you don’t know who she is for some reason, you might know her as the woman who confused Americans by saying “robot” instead of “traffic lights”.
Her fiancé, Tim Tebow is a devout Christian former NFL player who has maintained a high degree of celebrity status, in part by maintaining his visibility as an ESPN analyst, TV host and author.
Then there is his unusual quest to switch sports and reach baseballs’ major leagues, reports The Washington Post.
Anyway, Tim flew Demi-Leigh’s family in from South Africa for the proposal as a surprise after he popped the question:
Placing the ring on Demi-Leigh’s finger, Tim said: “This ring is internally flawless. Just like you.”
He clearly has very high internal standards.
Once the ring, a 7,25-carat solitaire, was firmly in place, South African singer Matthew Mole emerged “from behind a hay bale,” and serenaded the couple.
To make sure Nel-Peters didn’t suspect something was up during their stay at his family’s farm, Tebow wasn’t above a little deceit, telling her his apparent excitement derived from a plan to give his father a new truck.
According to People, he even went so far as borrow a vehicle from a local dealership and put a large bow on it and Nel-Peters subsequently told her impending father-in-law, “I’m sorry you didn’t get a new truck, but you’re getting a new daughter!”
Tim has been dating Demi-Leigh since at least July 2018, when he confirmed the relationship to ESPN.
“She is a really special girl and I am very lucky and blessed for her coming into my life,” he told the network’s Pedro Gomez. “I am usually very private with these things but I am very thankful.”
So not a very long courtship, then.
Well, a lifetime of happiness to them both, and a happy Friday to us all.
