A ski trip in the Alps went horribly wrong when a young man injured his knee near the Anterne Pass.
But it could have been a lot worse.
The man, Bruno, had fallen while skiing, injuring himself quite badly. Luckily, 9NEWS reports, his team was able to call the emergency services despite being well above cloud level, at an altitude of around 7 000 feet.
Enter the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (French Mountain Police), who apparently employ the world’s most skilled helicopter pilot.
Here he is in action, rescuing Bruno and co. The real good stuff starts at around 1:10 if you want to skip ahead:
Get that man a Bell’s.
As you can see, the pilot managed to delicately plant the helicopters right landing skid into the snowy incline, allowing three members of the rescue team to disembark and treat the injured man.
The medics fitted a brace to Bruno’s leg and he was whisked away to a nearby hospital.
If that pilot ever gets tired of the rescue business, he’d do really well as a stunt pilot.
