At 9:07AM this morning, Jacob Zuma officially joined Twitter.
Sure, there was a defunct president Twitter handle back in the day (which stopped tweeting many years ago), but now JZ himself has shimmied in from the darkness to say hello to the people of South Africa.
His first post is a video, where he sits in front of a piano and confirms the authenticity of the account.
As he says, it really is the former president, and hopefully future jailbird, behind the account:
Good morning Mzansi
Thank you for the warm welcome, I look forward to engaging with you. pic.twitter.com/sr1MhSNf0F

Within a few hours, he had already amassed thousands of followers, and I’m sure that number will only grow throughout the coming weeks.
The account is currently not verified, but IOL and EWN and News24 report that it is genuine.
Look at that face:
At the time of writing, he had only two tweets, the second of which was to debunk a fake tweet doing the rounds.
The original tweet claimed to show a way people could donate money to Zuma, more than likely to cover his legal costs after another knockout blow in court:
Who wants to take a bet on how long it is before he accidentally tweets a picture meant for one of his wives?
