Known as one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Western Cape is located in the Southern part of South Africa and is where Cape Town is located. The Western Cape is well known for its beautiful coastlines, breathtaking mountains and sporting events, but not many people know that it is also home to some fantastic casinos.
For most of us, when we think of casinos, the natural tendency is to think of Vegas and Macau. However, it can be argued that the Western Cape can compete with the best of them.
Golden Valley Casino is one of the most intimate casinos in the area, and well worth a visit. It is located in Worcester, around one hour from Cape Town. It has a friendly feel to it and has 220 slot machines and six tables. The slot collection includes favourites such as Hollywood Slots, Jackpot Party and Fort Knox. The slots are open 24/7, and tables operate from 6PM on weeknights and from 12PM on Friday and weekends. You can also tie in your visit with an overnight stay at the Golden Valley Lodge, which feels like a home away from home, and you can stay in rooms surrounded by mountains and natural fynbos.
The only casino you will find actually in Cape Town is the wonderful GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, and really does entertain on the Las Vegas scale. Whilst adults are enjoying themselves at the casino, children can be entertained at the ice skating rink, playing arcade games, or even watch movies at the Nu Metro. The casino is open 24/7 and there is a massive range of dining options in the complex to choose from, including Asian and Mediterranean. It is also beautiful from an architectural perspective and pays homage to the character and culture of Cape, with external facades that have been recreated from historical city buildings, and an interior based on the maritime tradition of Cape.
Garden Route Casino is, as you would imagine, located on the famous Garden Route of the Western Cape. This casino boasts an impressive 412 slots over the floors and 16 different table games, including Casino Hold’em, roulette, blackjack and Texas Hold’em. VIP players at the Garden Route Casino can play in a dedicated Salon Prive, which features an extra 42 slots, an American roulette table, a Raise’em poker table and three blackjack tables. The VIP area also offers incredible views of the surrounding Garden Route and luxurious seating and its own hostess.
Just an hour from Cape Town you can also find the Mykonos Casino, in the beautiful Greek Isles-inspired location of Club Mykonos Resort. The casino has 320 slot machines, including 20 standalone progressive slot machines, blackjack tables, roulette tables and much more, including regular promotions on offer which see great prizes up for grabs like cars and cash. There is also great spa to try out, a beautiful beach, a range of shops and a chapel. Many casino visitors will be staying on site and enjoying the resort, but there is no reason you can’t just come and check out the casino.
So anyone coming to stay anywhere near the Mother City (Cape Town), should take the opportunity to visit one of these exciting casinos where the action never stops. Players will find that casinos in the Western Cape can compete with the best of them, in terms of games, service, atmosphere and even winning streaks.
