Despite getting on in years, the Queen knows how to command a room.
She recently visited Coram, the UK’s oldest children’s charity, to open The Queen Elizabeth II Centre – a national centre for children named in her honour.
Based at the site of The Foundling Hospital in London, Coram has been helping vulnerable children since it gained the Royal Charter in 1739.
Upon arrival, she was greeted by Edward Newton, 102, the oldest surviving pupil from The Foundling Hospital. Newton remembered the Queen’s father, King George’s visit to the hospital in 1926 when he was a young boy.
The Queen also met nine-year-old Nathan Grant, who decided that the whole thing just wasn’t for him:
You have to admire the kid’s style.
I might use “The Nathan” next time a situation gets awkward.
