Nothing compliments a Sunday hangover quite like the power unexpectedly going off. On the plus side, it’s an excuse to eat everything in the fridge.
Yes indeed, load shedding is back, and if the whispers are true, it could be back for quite some time. Today we are on stage two, and that is going to continue throughout the week, including between 9AM and 10PM today.
The whispers doing the rounds are that Eskom is far worse off than we are being told, and the extent of their plight is being suppressed because of the looming 2019 elections.
Eskom has apologised for the latest round of load shedding (yawn), with spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe saying that “as it stands, things are not looking good for this week”.
You’re welcome to check the various sites that offer updates on load shedding, but if you’re tech-savvy, why not just download an app and receive notifications ahead of time about when you’re going to be plunged into darkness?

We also found this option:
You’ll find the Apple and Android downloads on their site here.
If you’re inclined to trust Eskom, they do have their own online portal, which you can check out here, but I know that in the past I have had a number of issues using that site.
So, here we are again, hey – a timely reminder of how deep the Gupta / Zuma rot is, and how the deep the hole to climb out of really is.
Not sure where he gets these stats, but this tweet from prominent SA tech investor Michael Jordaan paints its own story:
