Sea Point Mob Justice, Following Paintball Gun Shooting [Video]

Whilst details of what led to the attack remain sketchy, a Sea Point man was seriously beaten after he wielded a paintball gun.

On Friday, a Cape Town security company owner was on the receiving end of a serious beating after the men he was threatening with a paintball gun turned the tables on him.

It has been confirmed that he is now out of hospital but the incident, which took place in Regent Road, has been doing the rounds on social media over the weekend.

News24 have the story, although the details remain sketchy:

It has been suggested that that confrontation was related to a strike by Dischem workers, but several union spokespeople were contacted, and could not provide insight on the incident or whether their members were involved.

On Saturday, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said they were aware of the attack but no case had yet been registered for investigation.

Just a heads up that the footage is pretty full on:

There’s plenty of red regalia on show in that video, which has led some to believe that there is an EFF connection. Below from the Citizen:

Though Twitter user Tumelo Mapaa, who shared the video, said the protesters were members of the EFF, other reports say it was Dischem employees who were protesting…

According to Twitter user @GinaHowse who said she witnessed the incident, the man with a paintball gun was apparently asking the protesters to stay away from his car.

“I watched and heard it from my home. He should have just run, you don’t face an angry mob alone,” she said.

Whatever their affiliation, and whatever the reason for the attack, watching scenes like this unfold in broad daylight serves as a reminder of just how violent our society really is.
