Vespa has always been the coolest thing on the road, and now it could turn out to be the coolest thing in the water.
Pierpaolo Lazzarini has renewed the classic design of the famous Italian scooter by creating a more contemporary machine: a jet ski.
The jet ski incorporates the flawless design and old-school charm of the Vespa scooter, reports Fubiz.
The prototype is Iron Man red and looks like something that the Marvel hero would own – especially now that he’s getting around on a Vespa.
A quick look at that prototype:
The jet ski is ecological, and the Italian concept artist has envisioned them as coming with two different engine formats; one all-electric, and the other with a gas-powered engine, with each capable of almost 40 knots per hour (around 74km/h) on water.
Lazzari said he wanted to create a bike for the future – elegant, colourful and practical. He even designed the front wheel and the back tubes to refer to the elegant curves of the original model of the 1950s.
According to Maxim, Lazzarini also foresees a self-balancing element to the Jet Vespa, as he calls it:
His designs also indicate both battery and engine placement low and centered in the ski itself, presumably helping accomplish that literal balancing act. That would be especially important in the all-electric version, where batteries would be larger and of utmost importance.
Whether or not the jet skis make it to the production line will depend on public interest.
While you’ll have to wait to get your hands on one of these beauties, if they ever make it the production line, you can own all of the elegance and flawless design of a Vespa scooter right now.
