Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has just announced the newest version of the Range Rover Evoque, and it’s super techy.
The upgrade of the SUV, which was first released in 2010, has one optional feature that really stands out: the “ClearSight Rear View Mirror,” which doubles as a screen for a backup camera.
The mirror changes at the flip of a switch between an actual view and HD display that shows off an unobstructed 50-degree view of what’s behind the car, writes The Verge.
The video below is a bit lengthy, but showcases all of the new features you can expect in the upgrade. To see the HD rearview mirror, skip ahead to 1:40:
The new Evoque is also JLR’s first mild hybrid car.
…meaning there’s a small 48-volt battery connected to the powertrain that gives a 50-horsepower boost to the four-cylinder engine, and only gets recharged by the motion of driving. (The company has offered a number of plug-in hybrids.)
The battery captures energy as the car brakes, and then redeploys it as the car accelerates, which helps make driving more efficient in stop-and-start situations.
Jaguar says the new Evoque is also the first of their cars to use “artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the driver’s preferences”, and then automate “comfort and media settings.”
Otherwise, it’s a regular modern car, complete with USB inputs, Android Auto, and JLR’s dual-screen InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system (as an option).
Pricing and other details will be announced in February 2019.
