I can’t remember a time that I didn’t need and want a new fridge. Whether it’s a bar fridge for my study or a double door fridge in the kitchen, I find myself constantly yearning.
Even our ‘booze fridge’ in the garage is horrific and needs to be replaced. It’s so noisy and it leaks, and has such a chronic ice build-up in the freezer that I needed a hacksaw to find a bottle of tequila the other day.
There’s nothing quite like a new fridge. That sense of freedom – thinking that you’ll never be able to fill it up. My folks gave us a fridge for our engagement seven or so years ago, and my God it felt good. Tall and sleek, she commanded respect in the Safe House.
Fast forward several years and two kids later, and I’ve got Chelsea phoning around for replacement shelves and gaskets – the result of very good use and overfilling. The logical next step would be to turf out the old booze fridge, move this one to the garage, and get a new double-door fridge for the house. I fear the price of that, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised, as always, with the deals at A&A Furnishers on Kloof Street.
Firstly, with the lowest delivery fee in Cape Town, you can get this full-size bar fridge delivered to your house for under R2 000. Think about that for a second.
If you’re looking at getting started with a fridge – freezer combo, and cash is a little bit tight at the moment (greetings to our student readers), you might as well get this Defy for R3 000. I mean, really!
Then there’s this double-door fridge marked down from R34 000 to R12 500. A double-door fridge for under R20 000? I didn’t think that was possible.
I hope they have enough stock of this one because I’m probably ordering one right now.
Whoah – looks like that’s not the only double-door fridge under R20 000! Here’s a beautiful Siemens with built-in water and ice dispenser, for a cool (see what I did there) R19 500!
I’m surprised that’s even allowed.
Then, for those of you who refuse to mess around (I like you), let’s discuss Smeg fridges. With a Smeg minibar installed in the Goshawk’s Nest deluxe tent at Cabine du Cap, I feel I’m in a position to comment.
With Cabine du Cap being completely off the grid, one needs to be very energy conscious when planning one’s solar energy use. You’ll be interested to know that Smeg appliances are consistently the most energy efficient options out there. Have a look around at how many other brands have A++ energy ratings. Hardly any.
Sure, you’ll find A or A+, but nearly never A++. So it’s nice to know that the Smeg price tag is not just about beautiful looks and construction, but performance and earth-friendliness, too.
Not that it hurts to save a few bucks on the usual price, which is what you’ll do at A&A. Try and find a better price than this, which is available in a variety of colours.
I bet you didn’t think you’d read an entire article just about fridges – well done. As a reward, here’s a link you should copy and paste into your calendar.
Save it in your diary for 5:30PM on Thursday, because that’s when the A&A Furnishers Black Friday deals are announced. They will then be available online for sale at midnight, and the shop will open at 7:30AM on Friday.
That means prices even lower than what they already are. It’s madness. Treat yourself – you’re worth it.
