The Christmas adverts are already here, and they’re not mucking around.
Earlier this week we showed you the Iceland advert that was banned from TV but blew up on social media, proving to be a massive success at a fraction of the spend.
It’s worth a watch, and the same can be said for this year’s John Lewis ad, which features the one and only Elton John.
The UK department store has done very well with this one, and it ties in nicely with their new offerings. Below from the Telegraph:
John Lewis will sell a range of pianos for the first time in 70 years, with the advert expected to drive parents and grandparents to buy pianos and keyboards as Christmas gifts…
The set from the advert is from today on display John Lewis’s Oxford Street store where customers can explore Elton John’s dressing room, recording studio and living room sets from the advert.
Given how hard this one tugs on the heart-strings, I would expect piano sales to soar.
Elton, do your thing:
Nah, mate, you’re the one getting emotional.
The musical superstar is also pretty chuffed with how things turned out:
Elton John said: “The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family.
“It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my Grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life.
“The ad is absolutely fantastic and I’ve truly loved every minute of being a part of it.”
The gauntlet has been thrown down, rival companies wanting to make a touching Christmas advert.
