Crime is getting out of hand in South Africa.
We’ve seen a lot of people fighting back, but in some cases, it just isn’t possible.
Another horrific incident was caught on camera in Constantia Kloof, West Rand, Johannesburg this past weekend.
The footage shows five men hijacking and then kidnapping a couple and their child. Three of the men dragged one of the victims into the back seat of the dark SUV.
Florida police spokesperson Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela told News24 there were five suspects and “apparently four of them were in possession of firearms.”
The following footage captures the crime as it happens:
Thankfully, the family survived the incident physically unharmed. They were dropped off at the corner of Margaret Street and Aasvoel Avenue, Johannesburg. That’s roughly 20km from the hijacking spot.
That must have been a terrifying 20km trip.
The hijackers demanded their bank cards and pins, withdrawing an undisclosed amount before releasing the family.
No arrests have been made, but a case of hijacking has been opened at the Florida police station.
