Last November, the World Rallycross of South Africa (WRX) took place at the Killarney International Raceway. The event was the first time that Rallycross and its World Championship event was hosted in Africa, was the first FIA-sanctioned World Championship since the last South African Grand Prix in 1993, and was also a massive success.
So much so, in fact, that they are back again, and this year the Gumtree World Rallycross of South Africa returns to the Killarney Raceway on November 24 and 25.
The really good news is that we have TWO SETS OF DOUBLE TICKETS TO GIVE AWAY, with each set valued at R860.
We’ll get to those details in a moment, but first, a little info on what to expect…
This year, 25 world-renowned drivers go head to head over two days for the World Championship title. High profile drivers are equipped with RX Supercars with over 600bhp, and the ability to accelerate from 0-10kmh in less than two seconds, which is faster than a Formula One car.
There are a number of levels of competition – each with different specifications and power units – from Crosskarts to Super 1600 to RX2 to Supercars.
Basically, there’s a little something for everyone, with a succession of short, sharp, action-packed races with phenomenally quick, powerful cars ensuring there’s never a dull moment.
Breaking up the adrenaline-fuelled motorsports will be high-octane antics like an aerial display by the Silver Falcons, the FMX Show and the Monster Energy Rig Riot.
Marius Roberts is the official commentator for the event, and he’s joined by motoring enthusiasts like legendary racer Sarel van der Merwe, Jacob Moshokoa (news anchor on 947 Breakfast Express and all-around vehicle fundi), and the much-loved DJ and car lover Ready D.
Other celebrity ambassadors at the event include local WRX drivers Mark Cronje and Ashley Haigh-Smith, racing driver and motorsport commentator Graham Duxbury, and motorsport journalist, Junaid Samodien. Also in the mix is rugby idol, Chester Williams and KFM presenter, Ryan O’Connor.
In other words, you’ll be in good company while you get your motorsports fix, sip on a G&T, or explore the stalls and motoring exhibitors who will be displaying everything from batteries and mag wheels to motor spares and WRX merchandise.
Right, so who wants some free tickets? You do.
In order to win two general admission weekend passes for all the action on November 24 and November 25 (valued at R860), name one of the insanely talented rallycross drivers that will be at the 2018 World RX SA race.
Pro tip – you can find driver profiles HERE. You didn’t hear that from me.
To enter, mail your answer to damon@2oceansvibe.com, with the subject line “Give me the WRX tickets“. Remember to say hi, too, because Damon is a gentle soul. The winners will be notified via email on Monday, November 19.
If you don’t want to run the risk of not winning, hurry up and get your tickets now.
