Donald Trump hasn’t been doing a great job of participating in the recent World War I centenary commemorations.
It must be his bone spurs. They tend to flare up whenever anything war-related is mentioned.
When he has tried to participate, people haven’t been too amped to see him. On Sunday, he was headed to a ceremony marking 100 years since the end of World War I, when three topless protesters broke through the barricades and charged his motorcade on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
The women, tied to the protest group Femen, had the slogans ‘fake peacemakers’ and ‘hypocrisy parade’ written on their chests, reports the Daily Mail.
Femen is known for protesting naked. They’ve had some hits and misses, but never fail to cause some kind of spectacle whenever they turn up.
One of the protesters managed to get quite close to the motorcade. Another woman breached the security cordon, running towards Trump’s convoy with her arms raised:
All three women have been arrested, but the incident reveals some serious chinks in the tight security put in place for the event.
To be fair, if I was in Trump’s security detail, I wouldn’t put that much effort into my job either. It just isn’t worth it.
Constance Lefevre, another activist who was among the crowd but did not participate in the protest, told AFP that Femen was protesting the presence in Paris of leaders ‘who are responsible for most of the world’s conflicts’.
She cited Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan, among others.
The motorcade stopped briefly before continuing on to the Arc de Triomphe, where around 70 world leaders had gathered to mark the centenary of the Armistice.
Trump must have been very confused, as women usually run in the opposite direction.
