People lie about their age all the time, but Dutch pensioner Emile Ratelband (above and below), 69, wants to take it one step further.
In four weeks time, a local court in the city of Arnhem, south-east of Amsterdam, is expected to rule on Ratelband’s case.
His case? He wants to shift his birthday from March 11, 1949, to March 11, 1969, comparing the change to identifying as being transgender.
In other words, he’s using gender law to make a case for legally changing his age, and the reason will surprise you. Here’s BBC:
“You can change your name. You can change your gender. Why not your age?” he told Dutch paper De Telegraaf.
…Mr Ratelband argued he feels discriminated against because of his age, and that it was affecting his employment chances and his success rate on the dating app, Tinder.
“When I’m 69, I am limited. If I’m 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different car. I can take up more work,” he said.
“When I’m on Tinder and it say I’m 69, I don’t get an answer. When I’m 49, with the face I have, I will be in a luxurious position.”
Why doesn’t he just lie about his age on Tinder, like every other creepy sixty-something?
Naturally, the court is sceptical of the matter because no legal mechanism currently exists allowing a person to change their birthdate. Also wanting to legally lie about your age on Tinder is not the same as having your gender line up with your identity.
Mr Ratelband further argued that according to his doctors he has the body of a 45-year-old, and described himself as a “young god”.
Ratelband is a media personality and motivational speaker. He also voiced the character Vladimir Trunkov in the Dutch-language version of the Pixar film Cars 2.
Good to know you’re never too old to be a fucboi on Tinder. He must be a hoot in people’s DM’s.
