Every. Goddam. Year.
Halloween, which should be fun and an excuse to dress up, always becomes a fashion show of horrors that have nothing to do with ghosts or ghouls.
Despite the fact what is and isn’t inappropriate should be very obvious by now, people still get it wrong.
There was an argument about blackface and whiteface, where people, once again, displayed their astounding lack of historical knowledge regarding this particular topic.
And then there was this:
The above idiot is ITV comedy boss Asif Zubairy, who has been accused of ‘appalling taste’ and ‘inexcusable behaviour’ for dressing up as murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s executioner at a celebrity Halloween party, reports The Daily Mail.
Khashoggi was strangled and cut up at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, some of the details of which were revealed hours before the Halloween party.
Zubairy has been in showbiz for years, and has shows like Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing‘s spin-off show It Takes Two on his résumé.
He is now responsible for commissioning all of ITV’s major entertainment programmes, including panel show Celebrity Juice, which sees contestants participate in crude tasks and exchange lewd conversations.
In other words, with his experience, he really should know better.
ITV refused to comment. Mr Zubairy said: ‘I’m a private individual who attended a private party. I realise my Halloween costume may have offended some people, for which I apologise.’
Private party or not, he could show a little respect for the grieving family of Jamal Khashoggi.
