Sundays are usually pretty average, especially when you hear the Carte Blanche jingle starting up.
Hi, I’m Derek Watts, and your weekend is now over.
This Sunday was an especially average day for Malusi Gigaba, currently our Minister of Home Affairs, who was forced to publicly admit that there was a sex tape involving him in circulation.
The video footage does not show Gigaba with his wife (or his mistress), but for Zapiro’s cartoon to make sense, a description of sorts is necessary.
To put it simply, the 13-second video shows Gigaba playing with his penis with his hand while saying: “Imagine if this is in your mouth.”
It is shot from below, with his penis far closer to the camera than most directors would recommend.
With that in mind (and an apology from me for putting that image in your mind), here’s Zapiro’s cartoon on the Daily Maverick:
Pretty sure I don’t need to spell it out, but that’s Gigaba being ‘manhandled’ by a Gupta.
Makes a change from being in their pockets, which is where he can usually be found.
By the way, Gigaba didn’t have a great Tuesday, either. The Oppenheimers appeared before parliament’s home affairs portfolio committee to explain how their firm, Fireblade Aviation, came to operate a private terminal at OR Tambo airport without an official agreement granting them permission to do so.
According to Business Day, and a series of courts, Malusi is a liar:
Responding to questions from MPs, Nicky Oppenheimer said home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba had lied to parliament when he stated he had not approved the family’s private terminal in early 2016.
He said he took offence at insinuations that the family had paid a bribe to obtain the approvals. He said Gigaba had said at the time he was delighted to approve the terminal, but the family was “astounded” when he later changed his mind, denying he had ever approved it.
The matter eventually ended up in court, where a judge found Gigaba had lied. Gigaba lost his appeal to a full bench of the high court‚ as well as an appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal‚ and has decided to take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
In other words, he’s just throwing out the Hail Marys in the hope that somebody believes his nonsense.
We should also show you some scenes from yesterday’s home affairs portfolio committee, where BLF leader Andile Mngxitama did his best to steal the limelight.
Together with his supporters, they stormed the meeting, calling the Oppenheimers a “criminal family” and almost came to blows with Nicky.

Thankfully, we know that Mngxitama took money from Bell Pottinger and the Guptas, and is thus irrelevant in anything resembling an educated conversation about South African politics.
