Update – Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane wasn’t done, because she also appeared in front of the Nugent Commission later in the day and had another shocker. See that here.
Good heavens, this did not go well.
History is littered with examples of trainwreck interviews (some of which have happy endings), and now we can add SARS’ Chief Officer for Digital Information Services and Technology, Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane, to that list.
Earlier today she appeared on SABC News to try and downplay claims that it could cost R1 billion to save SARS’ e-filing system.
Given the current mess that SARS finds itself in, especially in the wake of being dismantled piece by piece by Tom Moyane, they could use some good PR.
This was not that good PR.
I know this is her second language, but throwing around buzzwords like “decentralisation” and “outsourcing” is no substitute for preparation:

Sure makes it easier to understand how SARS has ended up in this expensive mess.
I can’t say farewell without bringing up an interview that is even more cringeworthy. Enjoy.
