As technology advances, we’re getting closer and closer to transforming the Terminator movies from fun action romps into cautionary tales.
Back in May, we brought you Boston Dynamics’ creepy humanoid robot, Atlas, running around a park and performing backflips like a gymnast.
That was already cause for robot overlord concern.
Since then, Atlas has been upgraded. The robot is now able to navigate a complicated obstacle course, reports The Independent.
Take a look:
Great, now they can hurdle fences and the like.
Atlas uses computer vision to identify and navigate obstacles and hit the terrain accurately.
The Massachusetts-based firm was initially spun out of MIT with funding from the US military to build machines for the army, however it was acquired by Google X in 2013, which began developing robots for other purposes.
Now owned ny Japan’s SoftBank Group following a 2017 takeover, Boston Dynamics now has four main robots in development: Atlas, Handle, Spot and SpotMini.
Spot and SpotMini are robotic dogs. They are equally creepy, if not more so:
The tech is undeniably cool. Whether it’s the dawning of a new era or the death of us all remains to be seen.
