If you watched the original movie adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary as a kid, it probably haunted your dreams right through into adulthood.
Pet Sematary is definitely one of King’s darker novels. So dark, in fact, that he didn’t want to publish it until his wife convinced him otherwise.
Now, Paramount is releasing a reboot of the 1988 classic film adaptation, and it looks like they’re taking the darkness and creepy tone of the novel to the next level.
Take a look:
Ars Technica has some plot points for those of you who haven’t read the novel or seen the film.
A doctor named Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) moves his family from the big city (Chicago in the book, Boston in the 2019 film) to a charming small town in Maine. The new house is right by a busy highway on one side and bumps up against a forest in back. So many local pets meet their demise on the highway that the children have set up a “Pet Sematary” in the forest to bury their beloved animals.
But their new neighbor Jud Crandall (John Lithgow) warns that the cemetery abuts an ancient cursed burial ground.
I’ll spare you the spoilers. All you really need to know is that the ‘sematary’ isn’t as innocent as it seems.
By the looks of things, it’s going to be creepy AF.
Pet Sematary is set to be released late next year.
