South African prisons – the one place you don’t want to end up after a weekend of drinking.
Unless you’re a warden, because then you can just get your drink on at work.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is appalled by a video of a “plastered official”, reports Times LIVE.
The “plastered official” in question was caught on video, when he was discovered drunkenly hiding under a coat while on duty.
Man’s Not Barry Roux shared the video on Twitter. Look at the state of this guy:
Ayi Madoda. He doesn’t even know where his gun is. pic.twitter.com/X3BW5qKmXS

You’ll notice that when asked where his gun is, he has no clue. Think about that for a second. A gun is missing in a prison full of dangerous criminals. Feel safe?
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the department was aware of the video circulating on social media. In the video‚ the prison warder is sitting on a chair with what appears to be a coat over his head.
“Are you fit for duty?” the person filming the video asks him.
“I’m fine‚ meneer (mister)‚” he replies.
Later, when asked to stand on one leg, the warden struggles.
Nxumalo said: “The Department is deeply appalled and aggrieved by this video. A conduct of this nature can never be allowed in DCS.”
He added that officials are expected to maintain a “sound state of mind and be professional in performing their duties”.
I would think so. The DCS is investigating the video, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
