Last week, we wrote about the ANC’s website, and how it provided us with a bit of a laugh.
That’s because the site, https://www.anc.org.za/, wasn’t exactly a fantastic advertisement for the party, due to the message that greeted those who visited it.
Yes, even though it’s been more than two weeks, you’ll find the same message when you visit the site’s homepage.
You could have a click on that link above, or we could save you the trouble and show you:
We have already detailed the contrasting versions of events coming from the ANC and service provider Unwembi Communications, who say that they are owed in excess of R32 million by the party, but now there’s another twist to the saga.
Enter anc1912.org.za, their new website, launched yesterday:
I doubt Cyril’s currently beaming from ear to ear, given his Nene finance minister headache, but A for effort.
As to be expected, the website’s release was met with a press conference (the party holds ribbon-cutting ceremonies when they open toilets), where all the usual lines were trotted out:
According to MyBroadband, “the registrar of the anc1912.org.za domain is listed as Afrihost on the ZA Central Registry”. I hope they have some sort of assurance about getting paid for the gig.
Regarding payment for the other site, things continue to get uglier by the day. This from IOL:
[TheANC] said it planned to take legal action against contractor Unwembi after the party’s website was allegedly suspended for nonpayment…
Spokesman Pule Mabe said the party received a notification from Unwembi for a settlement of R3.6 million in owed money for services for a period of six months.
“We have since advised our legal team to look into the matter for what we viewed as a deliberate attempt to cast doubt on our reputation and public standing, as our website was paraded with a big banner that it was shut down due to non-payment,” Mabe said at the launch at party head office in Johannesburg.
“Our legal team has written to SA domain demanding the return of our domain…which is indeed the property of the ANC. No one should lay claim on the heritage of our people…the domain www.anc.org.za belongs to the ANC.”
Or you could just, like, pay your bills.
The new site contains nothing on the likes of the ANC Women’s League and ANC Youth League (maybe that’s best), and nothing on the centenary celebration of Nelson Mandela.
