The Beckhams have been having an interesting year.
They’re fighting rumours that David was cheating on Victoria, and recently Becks was charged with speeding, which he managed to dodge on a technicality.
Needless to say, some people are finding it a bit tasteless that his latest product endorsement happened at the Paris Motor Show.
Here’s that purveyor of pointless celebrity gossip, The Daily Mail:
The former footballer appeared on stage at the Paris Motor Show to give his endorsement to a new saloon car and an SUV from car makers VinFast.
The firm, the first ever Vietnamese car maker, claims they are the first vehicles from the Far East to enter the ‘luxury’ market.’
Beckham stood smiling as he held a Vietnamese flag alongside Miss Vietnam 2018 Tran Xuey as the two cars were unveiled to industry experts and motoring fans.
Ever heard of VinFast? Me neither.
Five days before the Motor Show, he was caught exceeding the speed limit in a loaned Bentley in west London.
He enlisted the services of celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman, dubbed Mr Loophole, who successfully argued that although he accepted speeding, the notice of intended prosecution was not received until one day after the statutory 14-day time limit.
He did not attend the hearing, and instead headed to Paris where he celebrated over a £1,300 bottle of French wine with his wife Victoria.
That’s a R24 000 bottle of wine in case you’re wondering. Must be nice.
In a speech at the event, he said that the luxury car by VinFast is incredible – no really guys, it’s incredible:
‘It’s incredible, I mean, to create something in such a short space of time is really, it’s really incredible, you know, it really is. Vinfast is a miracle for Vietnam.
‘It’s incredible. It’s beautiful. It’s sleek. It’s modern. It’s high tech. It’s premium. It’s incredible. Congratulations.’
Incredible.
Production starts on the new cars next year. VinFast will begin by focusing on the domestic car market, but has ambitions to expand into the rest of Asia and then Europe.
Sorry, South Africans – I guess this incredible car is not for us.
