Sir Elton John is a legend and a knight. Even if you aren’t crazy about his music, you have to admit that there are one or two songs that you just can’t help singing along to.
Now the first trailer has been released for Rocketman, a biopic about the life of the musician, with a special focus on his early years in the industry.
Kingsman’s Taron Egerton plays the singer, alongside Bodyguard star Richard Madden as his manager and partner John Reid, reports The Telegraph.
Roll tape:
I am sufficiently intrigued.
“There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is,” Madden says, in the trailer’s voiceover. “Where there was darkness, there is now you – and it’s going to be a wild ride.”
The film is set for release in May next year. Egerton is describing it as a “fantasy musical” rather than a regular biopic. Its cast also includes Jamie Bell as his lyricist Bernie Taupin, and Bryce Dallas Howard as his mother Sheila Eileen.
The film is produced by John himself, and his partner David Furnish, through their company Rocket Pictures.
Billy Eliot writer Lee Hall has written the screenplay, while Dexter Fletcher will direct.
Fletcher is also responsible for the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Let’s hope both can do the respective musicians justice.
