The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has just turned 50. Feel old yet?
Will Smith doesn’t feel old. In fact, he decided to celebrate in a pretty unconventional way – jumping out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon.
Wouldn’t be my first choice, but each to his own. So, what inspired this? A midlife crisis? Too many action films?
It all goes back to a trip that Will went on with his family back in 1976, reports The Huffington Post.
Smith said he was the only one in the family who was terrified to walk up to the edge of the canyon.
“I was scared to take in the beauty,” he lamented.
Smith said that, since that moment, he’s tried to confront his fears head on, which is why he returned to the Grand Canyon to do his helicopter bungee jump.
Smith hyped his leap with nearly an hour’s worth of interviews with family and friends. There were also pre-taped segments with psychologists and physicists discussing the jump and the nature of fear.
He vlogged the whole thing as well. Check it out:
Yes, that is Carlton (real name Alfonso Ribeiro) doing the interview.
If you don’t have time to watch the full eight minutes, here are the highlights:
The jump reminded a lot of Twitter users of the time a bungee jump proposal went horribly wrong on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Luckily he survived. Otherwise, that vlog and the above Twitter post would have been really awkward.
Having confronted his fear of the Grand Canyon, Smith was asked if he’ll be confronting his other great fear – mice.
For Will, when it comes to mice, the fear is too real.
