If you didn’t know that your health was being monetised, then you haven’t been paying attention.
Boutique fitness is one of the ways that people take hard to come by commodities like air (yes, the stuff you’re breathing right now), and convince you to pay for it.
Still, this industry is doing well, mostly because people will do anything, especially if it’s trendy, to improve their overall wellbeing. So, let’s take a look inside London’s most high-tech boutique gym to see what’s on offer.
The state-of-the-art gym, called Third Space City in Tower Hill, London, is tackling the oversaturated health and fitness market by offering their clients luxury and out-the-box treatments.
Forbes has the details:
…before you’ve had the chance to even see a connected fitness gadget, the air you’re breathing is smart. How? Because it’s cleaned with UV lamps featuring quartz anodized reflectors that remove 99.9% of all bio-contaminants.
This Third Space says, creates the cleanest air in any London gym and aids a better training experience. Even the water fountains use an advanced filtration system to give members pure water throughout the club.
The club (not gym, club) features a “Hypoxic Chamber” that uses tech to take a small percentage of oxygen out of the room and replicate training at 2 500 metres.
By exercising in this low oxygen environment, science dictates that you can develop enhanced endurance and stamina. For example, Third Space says a 15 min high-intensity session in the chamber can be equivalent of a one hour workout at sea level.
So, you pay for air when you come in, then you pay to have it taken away in a Hypoxic Chamber. Got it.
Also what happened to the simple ways to stay healthy – like sleeping properly. Undervalued.
Anyway, if having your oxygen limited isn’t your thing, then there are also some fancy fitness classes.
There are three class studios in the Third Space City gym: The Mind & Body, Cycle + HIIT studios, all of which feature interactive lighting to motivate members, an advanced Sport Medicine practice and a bespoke multi-function athletic Rig structure, which has been installed to deliver better results for functional and high-intensity training.
If the machines take over as they did in Terminator, then everyone in these workout rooms will be the first to die. Death by autonomous spinning bike is not a good way to go.
And, if you did go, the fitness instructors would be the first to know, because you can sync your phone to the myriad screens they have littered around the place that track your heart rate, and allow instructors to monitor your progress.
There is also a UV treated swimming pool and an “Eco Fitness” incentive.
On top of having super clean air, Third Space City uses a heat recovery system, which reuses 75% of the heat produced elsewhere in the club normally wasted. The club also uses condenser boilers which are 90% efficient vs typical boilers that are only 75% efficient. Therefore, the heat that pumps throughout the club is auto-regulated and react to demand rather than always being on.
When you’re done breathing, or not breathing, depending on what you’re doing, you can take a shower and then dry yourself in a dry shower.
If only there was a simpler, cheaper invention that you could use to dry yourself after a shower.
If you have the money for it, like Prince Harry, then I’m sure it’s great. If not, you’ll just have to keep breathing regular air, and drying yourself with a towel like the rest of us common folk.
