When you think Camps Bay, ritual sacrifice isn’t the first thing that comes to mind.
Until now, anyway, because that’s apparently what people were getting up to in Camps Bay sometime over the past weekend.
A goat was found, alive, with a dagger lodged in its back on Camps Bay Beach, reports News24.
SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham says that despite the deep wound, the goat is expected to make a full recovery.
The goat, which has been named Hilda, was found early on Sunday morning, the same time as the Spring Equinox.
“A law enforcement officer was doing standard patrols and found her on the beach in between some rocks, trying to hide there. She had already lost a lot of blood,” said Abraham.
Lodged in the goat’s back was a black dagger, with red cloth tied around the wooden handle and what appeared to be hair knotted into the fabric.
Abraham said it appeared the animal was to be used for a ritual sacrifice.
I did some digging to try and figure out what kind of ritual uses a dagger tied with a red cloth and hair, and came up with nothing. Which means that this is probably the worst kind of idiot activity, probably performed by a bunch of bored sociopathic kids who think they’re wizards.
Luckily Hilda, who was most likely the smartest mammal at the sacrifice, is doing quite well, and is expected to make a full recovery.
Abraham said stabbing an animal in this manner and not seeking veterinary assistance were contraventions of the Animal Protection Act.
It’s also a contravention of basic human decency.
