With Wonder Woman covering the cold war, the Avengers in the 21st century, and Captain America in the mid-twentieth century, it makes sense that Captain Marvel would slot into the only remaining iconic time period – the 90s.
The decade is seeing a resurgence in the nostalgia game. The Gen Xers and Gen Yers, who came of age during the decade, can reminisce about grunge and multi-coloured Parkas, while younger people think of it as vintage cool.
Stranger Things has done a lot to bolster this.
Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she becomes Captain Marvel, after the Earth is caught in the centre of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.
It’s the latest in female superhero films pioneered by Wonder Woman.

Now to see if they can make it through an entire film with a female lead without introducing a male character to ultimately save the day.
I still haven’t forgiven Wonder Woman for that one.
