Take a stroll on the Sea Point promenade, and there’s a good chance you’ll see somebody walking a designer dog whilst wearing designer activewear.
That’s if they’re not being carried in a designer handbag, of course.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about Gerrard Gethings’ project featured on the Guardian, where he trawled Britain to find 50 canine-human lookalikes with characteristics (mostly hair, sometimes eyes) in common.
I guess it’s important to point out that these people aren’t necessarily the owners of the dogs they are pictured with, but we’ve all seen enough dog-owner lookalikes to know it’s a real thing.
Gethings’ project has actually been turned into a card game testing memory:
Those are some fine hairdos, but we are getting ahead of ourselves.
Up top is Fenella and Georgine, a Saluki, which is probably my pick of the bunch. Georgine looks like she used to ask to talk to the manager quite often, but now she prefers to spend her days at home in the garden.
Then there is Henry and Hope, an Afghan hound:
Next up – Amelia and Artemis, a standard poodle:
Looking rather broody, it’s Sophie and Percy, a pug:
So cute, right?
By the way, your pug is an anatomical disaster and will endear a lifetime of suffering for your enjoyment – see here and here.
Moving on…
Adam and Doug, a Newfoundland:
An extra 10 points for snapping Doug mid-dribble.
Let’s meet Sergei and Spike, a Siberian husky:
The eyes are pretty striking, but I must minus points for the turtleneck.
Emma and Ralph, a Hungarian puli:
Barry and Bubbles, a Rottweiler:
Sorry, Barry, it’s not possible to pull off the ‘gazing into the distance whilst deep in thought’ look when you have one of those hideously unoriginal tribal tattoos.
Bubbles, I dig your vibe.
I suppose the next angle that needs probing is how people and their pets often start to act the same.
