Those who watched yesterday’s proceedings in Parliament, where Markus Jooste faced questions from MPs, learnt a few things along the way.

I can’t believe just how hard Jooste rolls his r’s, but that’s not why you’re here. Fielding questions about Steinhoff’s governance and share price collapse, he was not afraid to throw others under the bus.

If you hung around until the end, you would have seen a delighted Floyd Shivambu finding out just how much money Jooste lost. Good to know that Floyd didn’t assault any journalists outside Parliament this time around.

Also, before you ask, nobody questioned Jooste on his relationship with Berdine Odendaal.

Ahead of his appearance in Parliament, Business Insider ran a story with some interesting background on Jooste. We have to highlight this:

At Steinhoff, Jooste’s nickname was “The Seagull” 

According to his associates and colleagues, this was because Jooste would fly into the office, sh*t all over his executives and then fly out.

Priceless.

He also has a soft spot for his old res at Stellies:

Jooste studied at the University of Stellenbosch and stayed at the men’s residence Wilgenhof, also know as “Bekfluitjie” or “Willows”. He donated a black Jaguar to the res, with a personalised number plate.

Nothing like rolling up to the R40 all you can drink Wednesday special in a Jaguar, right?
