Typhoon Jebi, which made landfall in Japan on Tuesday, is being described as one of the strongest storms to hit the country in 25 years.
The Kansai International Airport in Osaka has been closed due to flooding, more than a million people have been evacuated, and six people have died as a result of the storm.
Global warming and climate change are real, guys.
Quartz reports that “extreme weather has taken a toll on the country in recent months”.
An early summer typhoon flooded many rural areas, causing landslides, and a record-setting heat wave in early August killed dozens.
Photos from Jebi’s landfall Tuesday show gargantuan waves towering over seaside walls, mangled infrastructure, and even a massive tanker that ran aground into a bridge.
Below, you can see Kansai International Airport:

Powerful stuff. Even more powerful on film:
Due in large part to global warming, the number of natural disasters worldwide has more than quadrupled, to around 400 a year since 1970.
Time to start thinking seriously about our future on this planet.
