David and Victoria Beckham have been married for 19 years, and together for 21, which is a lot longer than most famous couples.
Still, being who they are, rumours are bound to circulate, the most recent of which is that they are splitting up because David has been unfaithful.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, Victoria spilt the (probably designer) beans on her family and the state of her marriage.
The Daily Mail reports that Victoria admitted that “persistent speculation regarding the state of their marriage comes with the territory”.
I can’t tell if that was useful information, or the Daily Mail trying to make itself feel better for publishing the often false, sordid details of people’s lives and calling it news.
Anyway, Victoria goes on:
‘People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal,’ she said.
‘But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.’
Talking about brand Beckham, Victoria said, ‘We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals. Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago? It’s all about the family unit’
Back in June, the Beckhams had to deny rumours that their marriage was falling apart.
It later emerged that during this turbulent time Victoria sat down with her four children to reassure them about the state of their parents’ marriage.
‘They sat the children down and addressed these horrific, hurtful whispers,’ a friend of the Beckhams told The Sun recently. ‘Both David and Victoria are very transparent with the kids to ensure they hear things directly from them – and not from the playground.
‘After the latest furore, they once again took the decision to be open and honest with them, reassuring them Daddy is not a cheat.’
The source added that while the couple of 21 years laughed off the rumours publicly, they took it ‘much more seriously’ at home.
Victoria also made the shocking statement that she tries to be the best wife that she can be. This is obviously different from all the other regular wives out there, who torture their husbands.
She elaborated on this in her Vogue interview, giving insights into her family life – talking about her much-hoped-for daughter Harper and how she shares her mother’s love of fashion.
‘She’s been able to run in Alaïa platforms since she was three, Victoria said. But only at home – she would never be allowed to leave the house in heels. The same rule applies to make-up. ‘[Home is] where it stays. On one hand, she’s quite girly, but on the other hand she has three big brothers and likes to run around and play football.
‘She’s not scared of being pushed over. And she wants to be an inventor!’
To summarise – there wasn’t any cheating, the family is important, and children can only wear heels around the house.
