People clearly have too much time on their hands, or they’re just really bored. Either way, folks on social media are obsessing over optical illusions.
First, there was that ‘Yanny and Laurel‘ clip. More of an audio illusion, but it blew up in a big way.
Then we brought you the hand swap challenge which left the internet torn between those who could do it, and those who will never figure out how it’s done.
Now, according to the Huffington Post, the latest illusion doing the rounds invites you all to ask the life-altering question:
“Is it a door, or a beach?”
Behold:
The snap was shared by @rebeccareilly on Twitter, with the caption “Is this a door or a beach??? Hahahaha” followed by a confused emoji and an eye-roll emoji.
Hilarious Becky. I totally LOLed.
Now everyone is trying to figure it out.
There are those who think it’s a beach:
Nothing about this looks like a door. Everything about it looks like a beach. Goodbye

It’s a beach dude

I swear it’s a beach but I need it to be confirmed
— Elliott Waring (@elliottwaringgg) August 26, 2018
And those who think it’s a door:
Got to be a door man

People were so torn up over the issue that Becky conducted a poll:
Realistically
— (@rebeccareilly__) August 25, 2018
As of Thursday, more than 223 000 people had voted, with 54% agreeing that it’s a picture of a door.
Then on Monday, Becky put everyone out of their misery by posting this picture of what appeared to be the same beach, but with people:
But not everyone was having it, claiming that the people were photoshopped in.
BUT, the perfectly square, pasted sections are even lower resolution, coincidently only around the people, which is what makes them stand out so much.

It seems that this will forever remain a mystery.
And I will forever be changed, as I try to figure out how we managed to survive this long as a species.
