Living in Vredehoek means a number of things.
One – wind. You will never understand until you have lived through a summer of consistent, pelting wind, at all hours of the day.
Two – the Vredehoek Spar. It’s an institution, has the best salmon and tuna in town, and their deli section has prevented many bachelors from having to cook a meal in years.
Three – when people ask where in Vredehoek you live, they often ask in relation to ‘Tampon Towers’. The towers actually form part of the Disa Park complex, if you want to sound fancy, so we thought we’d snoop around and see what a two-bedroom rental goes for these days.
This listing on Greeff is for R14 000 a month, unfurnished, 73 square metres, and comes with this description:
This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment comes available in the Iconic Disa Park complex at the foot of Table Mountain on the 1st October 2018. The unit boasts some of the best views Cape Town has to offer, as well as having a wonder of the world (Table Mountain) as our back garden. The apartment has a large living area, modern kitchen, with full family bathroom and Guest toilet and 2 well proportioned bedroom with Built in cupboards.
Disa Park also offers a communal pool, Squash and tennis courts and is situated in the trendy suburb of Vredehoek. Home to many stylish bars and restaurants, recreational parks and on the MyCiti bus line service.
I assume they’re talking about Sidewalk Cafe, where the local hipsters can gather on a sunny day and smoke rollies, exhibiting amazing rolling skills in the face of the ever-present wind.
Let’s see a few more pictures:
An impressive array of coats in one of the bedrooms.
Of course, it’s the view you’re really paying for:
Not too shabby.
I would also recommend that all new Vredehoek residents grab a Blue Cheese Burger from Carlyles on Derry. It’s so good, you’ll forget about the wind for an hour or two,
