Look, we don’t like writing about crime in South Africa just as much as you don’t like reading about it.
If you happen to have a good look around the major news sites, though, you’ll see a number of crime videos that are pretty tough to ignore.
Maybe we’re saving you some digging around, and maybe we’re giving more ammunition to that uncle who keeps on threatening to move to Perth, but here we are anyway.
First up is IOL with another heist from the Rolex gang. Members of the gang may have been arrested after a high-speed chase with police back in March, but others continue to act with impunity.
Broad daylight, people all over the place outside Da Vinci Hotel in Sandton, and not a single care in the world:
No idea if these people were tourists, but if they were, you’d imagine this is their last trip to South Africa.
This next video is chilling in that it shows a complete and utter lack of value for human life. The victim, 37-year-old Durban businessman Kidesh Ramjettan, leaves behind a wife and a two-and-half-year-old son.
According to Times LIVE, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said police were investigating a case of murder and no arrests had been made yet.
Broad daylight, Kidesh chatting to a customer in the parking lot of his Engen garage‚ Glaze Motors‚ in Rossburgh:
Value for human life – zero.
The third and (thankfully) final video took place yesterday afternoon, in an armed robbery that left 13-year-old schoolboy dead, cowering in the bathroom to escape gunfire.
Again from Times LIVE:
The teenager was one of three people killed in the bloody robbery at the F3 Supermarket in Kingsway Road in Bergville‚ KwaZulu-Natal. The robbers fired shots in every direction before entering the shop.
It is understood that the first casualty of the attack was a security guard who had been stationed nearby in an elevated tower. The robbers dragged his body from the post inside the store. A second security guard‚ who had been standing near the entrance‚ was shot in the face‚ and was critically wounded.
The teen‚ who had taken refuge in the toilet‚ was the last to be killed as gunmen sprayed the inside of the room. The guard and two others who were wounded were rushed to hospital after the gunmen fled the scene.
I think you know where this is going – broad daylight, and innocent people caught in the crossfire:

That last bit with the guy on top of the bakkie, gun in hand whilst firing off rounds, seems like something out of a movie.
Anyway, that’s enough of a bummer for one day.
