Being a football manager in the age of social media is a thankless task.
Just ask Claudio Ranieri, who took ‘5000 to 1’ Leicester City to the most unlikely Premier League title of all time, and was then sacked halfway through the next season.
My sympathies for Jose Mourinho, though, are far more limited. He is reportedly earning around £15 million (R274 million) a year at Manchester United, but manages to find a way to moan about something just about every week.
Last night he suffered the ignominy of a 3-0 home trouncing by Spurs, which comes fresh off a defeat to Brighton, and the cracks are beginning to show.
During his post-match press conference, the tension is obvious right from the get-go. If you really want to see when things start to go awry, skip ahead to around the six-minute mark.
Jose being Jose, really:
He’s right in that he has three titles, but he has a habit of treating the press with disdain, and they seem keen to return the favour:
In case you missed the match, here are the highlights:
Shall we check out the #JoseOut hashtag, quick?
Isn’t it wonderful to see that after years of calling rival team fans fickle, with Sir Alex at the helm, they’re now joining in the fun?
