If you want to know how popular a movie is, give away free tickets.
We gave away 100 tickets to see The Equalizer 2 last week, with exclusive preview screenings taking place at Ster-Kinekor Cavendish and Ster-Kinekor Sandton City last Wednesday, and they were snapped up within a matter of hours.
Judging by the audience reactions walking out of the cinema at Cavendish, who looked pretty stoked with life, this movie is going to continue to be a massive box office hit.
It has already topped the box office in the US (and the worldwide box office take has now exceeded R2 billion), proving once again that Denzel Washington is one of Hollywoods biggest drawcards.
Surprised? Neither are we when you consider that Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua have previously worked together on Training Day, The Magnificent Seven remake and, of course, The Equalizer.
The Equalizer 2 sees Washington reprising one of his signature roles as Robert McCall , a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.
He was forced to come out of retirement to deliver some vengeance against those who brutalise the helpless, and this time around, he’s seeking justice for someone he loved.
When his former agency boss – and only friend – is killed in an ordered hit, the Equalizer (Denzel Washington) leaps into action to avenge her death. To settle the score, he will have to face four highly-experienced killers who have the same precision training as himself.
If you haven’t already headed to cinemas to watch this one, make sure you check out The Equalizer 2. It opened On Friday, August 24, so the clock is ticking.
