We’ve reached the point in the Adam Catzavelos news cycle where the racist tries to say sorry.
First, the video goes viral, and Twitter sleuths do their thing and track Adam down.
Then the backlash begins, with the family business giving Adam the boot, and issuing a statement condemning his actions.
In true South African style, we manage to find a little humour in this mess, with the #AdamCatzavelosChallenge proving very popular around the country.
All this time, the ‘man’ himself has been hiding, but you just know the public apology is on its way. You also know that it won’t make an ounce of difference to millions, who have heard these same lines trotted out time and time again, but it had to arrive sooner or later.
Via IOL, here’s the full statement:
I dunno – he sure didn’t seem too stoked about South Africa being a “beautiful and diverse country” when he was throwing around racial slurs.
One interesting choice of words is “I love South Africa and am proud to have lived…”. Past tense?
Given that he will arriving home to an absolute shitstorm, with the EFF and the DA and a host of other people chomping at the bit to milk the incident for political gain see justice served, who knows what he has planned.
Maybe, when the next video of someone casually throwing around the k-word arrives, we will forget about Adam and move onto the next public shaming.
Something tells me that isn’t likely, though, because #AdamCatzavelos is still going off and it’s not people forgiving him:
This might be on the money:
