Yoh, but the boets are going to love this one.
Every so often we feature a proper boet showdown here on 2OV, the latest of which was that epic Parkhurst brawl back in June.
Still, those okes are playing in the minor leagues, because the undisputed king of the boets must be the Roman’s Pizza CEO, John Nicolakakis.
If you were a fan of Street Fighter back in the day, and you like your games with a healthy dose of South African accents, then Boet Fighter is calling out your name.
Seriously, these okes get it.
To start, here’s a little animation sampler:
Naas.
Via the game’s Facebook page, here’s the description:
BOET FIGHTER is a mega-schweet faaghting video game where Hard Eddy and his taaghtest charnas must moer all of Fourways in the face, as they faaght to reclaim his stolen binnet! It’s got creatine, vaalence and house beats, boet… and it’s coming soon!
I don’t know either area well enough, but they’ve clearly been skipping leg day.
It looks like they’re quite far along in the development process, because we found this gameplay teaser online:
For more info on the game, we go to Stuff:
Earlier this year, local game developer Robot Wizard attempted to crowdfund a point-and-click style game called Jengo… and failed. Now they’re back, collaborating with New Reality and local personality Hard Eddy…
The small team at Robot Wizard consists of an animator, a developer, and a character called Hard Eddy. A delightfully tongue-in-cheek take on Joburg boytjie-culture, where the biceps are big, the Ed Hardy vests are small, and the ‘roid rage is real, the Boet Fighter teasers are light on info, but heavy on humour…
Hard Eddy’s character is voiced by Gord Laws, a local voice-over artist and radio personality, whose boytjie impression is so on the nose one has to wonder how many misspent nights he’s seen at Billy’s, or any of Johannesburg’s other boet hotspots.
He definitely popped in at Tiger Tiger when he was down in Cape Town charfing the betties.
Given that Genital Jousting, a game by Constantia-based developer Free Lives, has raked in more than R20 million on Steam already, I guess anything is possible.
Boet.
Thanks, Ferg.
